Using Meditation to Reduce Stress

I admit that I am a casual, practical user of meditation, rather than an experienced practitioner who has spent years practicing and training in India or other easter culture where meditation has been actively used for thousands of used. However, that experience tells me even a meditation beginner can learn a few meditation techniques and reduce their stress levels.

Stress can be lowered by any form of natural calming, and becoming completely calm is an important aspect of meditation, across all its forms. In that feeling of calmness and total relaxation, with attention being given to perfect breathing, and fending off any stray thoughts that may ignite stress, those stress levels can just ebb away. It can be a marvellous feeling, which once you have first achieved, can be repeated pretty much a twill, given the peaceful space in your day.

Somebody who is well versed in meditation may well have their own special space set aside in the home, and a comfortable mat to lie on, or in which to sit in their most comfortable position. That person may also be expert at immediately shutting out all sounds, if there are any, and allow themselves to reach a deep meditative state over which they have total control. While that would be wonderful for stress relief, you can also achieve worthwhile stress reduction as a beginner in less than perfect conditions.

So long as you can sit or lie in a relaxed position, focus on your breathing, and succeed in shutting out at least many of your thoughts, then you can have an impact on your stress levels. Over time, you will be able to detach yourself even more from your surroundings, especially if you attend some sort of meditation class or yoga class, and/or make use of the many aids you can buy, such as relaxation music. As you progress into a more "professional" level of meditation, you will find you can have a good level of control over your own stress levels.

Remember, you have to start somewhere, and even a a few minutes of amateur meditation will bring a noticeable result, which you can use as your inspiration for learning more on how to mediatate.
