Career Development - An Integral Part of Self Improvement

Personal development and success are often, if not usually, tied up with a successful and satisfying career or careers. This means that career development is a key element to a self improvement program, whether for an adult or young student; even for a mature student.
Fortunately, the career development industry has matured positively over recent decades; especially over the past decade, with the wide use of the internet for career information sources, and even online career counseling. In the late 1960's in the UK, where I was a young student, there was little in the way of career development advice available to students, let alone adults.
Nowadays, things are very different. Career development is taken more seriously by governments, employers and education establishments such as schools, colleges and universities. This means that often there is much information readily available to an adult or student interested in their future or current career development.
One of the drawbacks of some of the career development advice sources are their inevitable academic origins. A career counselor in a school or college may be a teacher who has only ever worked as a teacher, so may not be fully understanding of careers in business, marketing, nursing, computing or many other career choices.
However, by making use of the various career information sources open to you, you may should be able to gather sufficient opinions and hard facts to at least help guide you in the progression of your career.
